Conatus By Zola Jesus

Zola Jesus is not a singer; she is a musician. It has always been so. That is not to say the people who have helped her along the way were not deeply important.Conatus is a huge leap forward in production, instrumentation and song structure. It says it all in the definition of the title: the will to keep on, to move forward. From thumping ballads to electronic glitch, no sound goes unexplored on her new record. It is an icy exploration in refined chaos and controlled madness, an effort to break through capability and access a sonic world that crumbles as it shines.

Nevermind 20 Years

I was sixteen when Nevermind came out. I was so excited and I remember that I always was listening song after song while I was running to High School. Was a new era for everyone, was the Grunge Scene, where the heroin chic was so hot as Kate Moss and messy was the perfect background for fashion pictures as the Nan Goldin or Corinne Day ones. The leader of this new wave was Kurt Cobain with his band Nirvana formed with Novoselic and Grohl. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was the first single of the band and it became the soundtrack of this generation. Nevermind was and will be the begin for a gen and Kurt the legend of the movement.

Here is one of my favorite songs, well... I have some ones from the album. This is the third single from Nevermind. So hope you like it as much as me, jump as high as you can and be proud of holes in your jumper.

Prada Meets Marcela Gutiérrez

After her solo exhibition in Los Angeles, Marcela is coming up so fast. And this is not a surprise cause her work is not just pretty, it´s awesome. Craziness would be the right word for her last months in which she has collaborated with huge names of music and fashion. From Beyoncé, who commissioned  her some illustations for her last european tour, to Prada where right now you can admire Marcela´s work on their flagship store in New York City. We love her work and for sure she deserves it.

Balenciaga | Fall Winter 2011

Usually, it takes a high fashion profile magazine to premiere a high profile fashion house’s ad campaign for the next season. However, with the new print vs. virtual media revolution, it would appear that, at least under an experimental title, the virtual media has won! The next Balenciaga Fall Winter 2011 2012 ad campaign will break online first.

Julia Nobis, Liisa Winkler, Carla Gebhart, Juliane Gruner posed for Steven Meisel in a NY studio and also in a Harlem church (if I had to choose, I’d go for the Harlem church: the contrast between the classic, antique stone setting and the geometrical, clean Balenciaga cuts looks really good). I wonder why they used the bathroom tiles setting, though. Why not recreate a virtual grid and use it as a backsplash? I will most certainly look more futuristic than a bathroom…
